TPS60400-Q1: Driving ability of Charge Pump boost Power IC

We would like to make a 3.3V-5V power supply by boosting from the LDO output power supply of about 2.5V, 40mA. I would like to use Charge Pump Power IC such as TPS60400, not DCDC converter for boosting because the supply current is limitted by 40mA(voltage is 2.5V). The output of this boost power supply needs to drive only one CMOS buffer IC with a power consumption of 10mA. On the other hand, I have heard that Charge Pump boost power IC couldn't drive CMOS IC. So, I concerned about whether I can use Charge Pump Power IC such as TPS60400 for CMOS Buffer IC. 

Can I apply Charge Pump Power IC such as TPS60400 to drive CMOS IC(ex. TC7SET08FU) ? Is the driving ability enough?

If there are any other concerns, I would be happy if you could give me some advice. Thank you.

    Please correct if my understanding is wrong. Do you want to supply -5V from the charge pump to CMOS? LDO 2.V is supplied for the charge pump?  

    Could you share any diagram that gives a better understanding?

  • The TPS60400 is a voltage inverter, and will not help you get a boosted voltage. To boost from 2.5 V to 3.3 V, use something like the REG710-33. For 5 V, use something like the TPS60140.

    What is the voltage at the LDO's input? Would it be possible to get power from there? Regulating the supply down and then up just wastes energy.

    There is no CMOS restriction; a charge pump can drive a device like the TC7SET08FU/‌SN74AHCT1G08‍DCK just fine.
