TLV62585: Why the output ripple is occurred on no-load?

Part Number: TLV62585

Hi,
My customer is evaluating TLV62585.

On the above schematics, he observed the following output waveform on no-load(0mA). We can see low frequency ripple.   Do you know/guess why this ripple is observed? Please review the schematics, and please let us know how to resolve this issue.

When 1mA load is added, we can not see the ripple as follows:

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • Hi Hattori-san,

I suggest adding a feedforward capacitor (optional), in case the customer needs to improve transient load and ripple voltage performance later in the design stage. But overall, the schematic diagram looks fine.

A significant ripple voltage at no-load condition is normal because the device is operating at PSM (Power Save Mode). In this condition, the switching frequency is significantly reduced to minimize the current consumption, which results in efficiency improvement. Please see part of the datasheet below, which describe PSM operation.

    Best regards,

    Excel
