TLC5973: MAXIMUM VLED SPECS

Part Number: TLC5973
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP8556

Hi,

I am planning to use TLC5973 LED current sink driver for backlight application.

My LED backlight operating voltage specs are 29V at 50mA. So, I am planning to connect backlight anode to 29V external supply and due to forward voltage drop we will able to maintain OUT pin specs as per the datasheet.

However in datasheet application, Input voltage range for LED lamp is 24V maximum. Please refer to the table 5 of the datasheet.

Can we connect external supply of 29 - 30V range to LED anode and still respecting the OUT pin voltage specs? Or is it just example values?

VCC of the device will be powered by 5V.

Regards,

Rajesh Kumar

  • Hi, Rajesh,

As mentioned in the datasheet, the maximum voltage is only up to 24V. If you connect external supply of 29-30V range, the high voltage will damage the chip when the Leds short circuit. You'd better respecting the OUT pin voltage specs.

In addition, the 6 channels LP8556's absolute maximum volatge is up to 50V and it is up to mA per channel which complies with your request. LP8556 is widely used in LED backlights and it would be a better choice. If you have more application request, please connect with me.

    Best Regard
