UCC28730: Ucc28730

Part Number: UCC28730

A curious question: if the DRV pin is clamped internally to 14.5 V with controlled current inside the chip, is it ok to clamp it to 5 v externally? Or 6v as well?

A whole lotta new ways become available if this is possible

Appreciate any reviews on this

  • Hello,

The UCC28730 drives the FET with an internal current source of 29 mA.  The gate driver output is clamped to 14.5V maximum.  If you clamp the drive output to 5V.  While the gate drive is high it will be delivering 29 mA causing excessive power dissipation in the IC.  I would recommend against doing this.
