Hi TI-Forum,
I have a system where I want to use a BQ25886 as 2S Lipo charger via USB C (PD). On the same USB connector is an USB Audio Codec (PCM2900CDB) for example. They will share the same USB-C connector. I have no idea if this can work, do I need a USB data line splitter or something? In order to work correct I need to connect the Dataline from both ICs to the connector. Hopefully some one has experience with this and can give me help how to solve my problem. I also atached an image showing the setup.
Best regards,
Nils
Hi Nil,
The detection on D+/D- occurs only at power up. After D+/D- detection is completed, the D+/D- pins on the charger IC goes into HiZ. Therefore, data transfer on the D+/D- line after the charger input source detection completes should not affect the operation of the charger IC.
Hi Jing,
thanks for your support! So I can connect the USB Audio Codec and the BQ25886 simply to the same USB data lines, is this correct? When I plug the usb connector via cable to a computer I can use the Audio Code while charging ?
Can you suggest an LiPo safety controller for 2 cell series connected that is good to use with BQ25886.
EDIT: I might want to change the charger IC to BQ25883RGET, as this is for 2s lipo series charging, correct?
Many thanks,
Nils
Hi Nils,
Yes, you can connect them to the same USB data lines if the codec is not going to do anything on the D+/D- at power up.
Regarding on the charging device, BQ25883 has I2C communication which is more flexible configuring charge profile. You can use the codec while the battery is charging. It should not affect the operation of the charger after input power source is detected.
Hi Jing,
thanks again for your response! I will use the BQ25883 for this project. Could you recommend a good lipo protection ic from TI that suits my 2S setup?
Bes regards,
Nils
Nils,
Please create a new thread to request a recommendation for a protection IC. The protection IC should be able to get you a recommendation for your application.
Thanks,
Ricardo
