UCC28740-Q1: automotive grade optocoupler recommendation

Part Number: UCC28740-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28730-Q1, ISO7741-Q1, ISO7710-Q1, ISO6741-Q1, ISO6721-Q1, , SN6505B-Q1

Hi team,

Do you have any cost-effective automotive grade optocoupler recommendations? It seems Vishay is the only supplier in the market, however, the cost (VOMA617A and VOM618A) is very expensive (~1$).

Customer want good load regulation for multi-outputs while PSR solution (UCC28730-Q1) doesn't fit well.

  • Hello,

Automotive devices generally cost more due to the qualification requirements.

I have moved this question to the TI isolator support organization so they can see if they have an equivalent TI automotive grade opto coupler.

The following link will also get you to the TI automotive grade products.  You can search there as well.

  • Hi Dongbao,

TI isolation devices are based on capacitive isolation technology and offer significantly better overall performance over optocouplers. Most of TI isolators are also available in automotive grade and give you multiple options to choose from to suit your application.

Please see below some of the device suggestions and choose the one that is most suitable for your requirement,

    1. High performance 4-channel digital isolator
      1. ISO7741-Q1
    2. High performance single-channel digital isolator
      1. ISO7710-Q1
    3. General purpose 4-channel digital isolator
      1. ISO6741-Q1
    4. General purpose 2-channel digital isolator
      1. ISO6721-Q1

Regarding the isolated power supply solutions, I see that you are looking for a solution with good load regulation. There are many isolated power supply solutions and you have already seem to have gone through the PSR Flyabck solution based on UCC28740-Q1.

We also have push-pull transformer driver based isolated power supply solution which also do not require any feedback path and are very simple to design with standard transformer available but for better regulation, you would have to use an LDO at the output of power supply. Please have a look at SN6505B-Q1 and let us know if this device along with a suitable TI LDO meets your requirements. Thanks.
