CSD88584Q5DC: Heat Sink recommendation

Part Number: CSD88584Q5DC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00774

Do we have a recommendation for heat sink for the top side of the CSD88584Q5DC DualCool power block?

The exposed area on the top of the device is kind of small so there's some question as to how a heat sink could be mounted on it. Any examples or experience with this is appreciated.

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for the inquiry. The CSD88584Q5DC power block is targeted for BLDC motor drive applications. Most of these applications use 3 or 6 (2x in parallel per phase) power blocks. They are placed in a line and a single large heatsink can be used on all of the devices. I am not aware of any single heatsinks for just one power block. An example is TIDA-00774 which uses 6 power blocks for a 1kW motor drive. The board is laid out to accommodate a heatsink. If you are interested, I can contact the group that did this design to get more information on the heatsink they used for testing.

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the quick response and pointing to the TIDA-00774.  I see in the test report that this design was tested with and without a heatsink. The application I am looking at is for a BLDC motor as well.

I'd like to get in contact with the group that did this reference design.  You can email me internally with the contact and I will follow up with them if this is easier for you.

  • Hi Mark,

I'm going to close this thread since we've moved the discussion to regular email.
