TPS40021: Footprint

Hello Team,

My Customer is already using the device however, they wanted to know why there is a change in the footprint (green circle)

Can you share with us the leads/reasons to do the change?

If their boards don't include these "4 small squares". Is there any issue?

Note: My customer is aware that this device is NRND

I haven't heard back from the packaging team on this yet.

I wouldn't expect this is related to any issue. You get more copper area for your thermal pad which should improve your thermal resistance value Rθja.

I will come back to you as soon as I get an answer from my team.

Hi Renan,

The drawings above are not the foot prints but the package outline (bottom view of the package).

I looked at the device history and there was no leadframe change for the device since 2007.

So I think that the previous package outline drawing from previous version did not show the additional “pins” (die pad size without pin is the same as on the new datasheet) and was corrected with the most recent datasheet revision SLUS535D.
