TPS7A85A: Why does TPS7A85A have worse thermal characteristic than TPS7A85?

Hi Team,

I understand the difference between TPS7A85 and TPS7A85A from the related thread. One question is :

Why are the thermal characteristics (Theta_JC, Theta_JA, etc.) worse in TPS7A85A than TPS7A85 even though they are in the same package type VQFN. Please help me to understand it.

Hi,

While the package has a very large role in the thermal dissipation the die size is also a factor and the TPS7A85A has a slightly smaller die. The smaller die means there is less chip surface area to dissipate the heat which in creases the thermal resistance.
