WEBENCH® Tools/TPS61096A: how to calculate the average value or effective value when there is Iin current waveform. Tina-TI

Part Number: TPS61096A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61096

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi Team,

we'd like to use Tina to simulate the total input power of the circuit.

Please kindly check attached. it takes 2ms for the part to be in steady state. So run " transient analysis" to "calculate the operating point “, start from 5ms to 6ms.

Then I can get input current waveform as below, but then how to calculate the average value of input current ( Iin as below) at steady state.  I use multi-meter but the value is obviously wrong.

Please kindly help on this. Thanks.

  • Hi Gavin:

You can measure the average current in the waveform after simulation. Below is a example with other device, just in my hand.

Firstly, zoom in the waveform to focus on the area which you interested. And then left click to choose it.

Secondly, click the "Process" in the top panel, and then click the "averages".

Then you can get the average current.

In the other hand, the model we supplied is most for behaviors evaluate and some main performance. I don't recommend if you use it to simulate the input current for such low loading condition. (As you know, TPS61096 is a device focus on the low loading condition, and the model didn't considering Iq accuracy. )

If you do care about the efficiency, I'll recommend you use the WeBench or check with our engineers. There also some typical efficiency curves in the datasheet.
