LM61460EVM: 18mA quiescent current vs 7uA in datasheet

Part Number: LM61460EVM

When powering the evaluation board the supply current is pulling 18mA without any load attached. I have traced the schematic and probed the board, I can not figure out what is causing such a high current draw. Is this expected? The data sheet reports low micro-amp levels of quiescent current. I am not experiencing these low currents. When I disable the device via the jumper the current drops to 1.8uA (expected 0.6uA). Please advise.

Thank you,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

Which EVM are you using right now? Do you have the "LM61460EV M-AS-400K" or "LM61460EV M-FS-400K"?

If your EVM has the "FS" version then the device is pulled to FPWM which is expected to pull more current than at AUTO mode.

Note that the current specification in the datasheet is for detailed in Section 7.7 for AUTO mode.

  • I am using the LM61460EV M-FS-400K, so it is in FPWM mode. Is there any way to set my module to be in AUTO MODE or is that device specific?

Thanks, I couldn't find in the datasheet the current(A) specification for FPWM mode, is it in there?

    Kind Regards,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

I would suggest getting the LM61460EV M-AS-400K "AS" version EVM to evaluate AUTO mode.

Note that the datasheet device comparison table shows the different versions of this device.

At light load, the LM61460EV M-FS-400K is factory internally configured to be in the FPWM mode option and can't be changed.
