I have been looking to bq24064 Battery Linear charger ic for my new design.

I have doubt in IC specs like

The maximum recommended Input voltage of IC is 16.5V

but Overvoltage protection of the IC is 11.7 maximum. Can i able to charge the IC with 12V to 14V input.

If I do so Overvoltage protection will be enabled ?

Please clarify me the difference between Input over voltage protection and recommended input voltage.

bq24064 EVM board also says that IC will be disabled if Vin is greater than Vovp,

Clarify me in this.

Hi,

Welcome to E2E!

The device will go into standby mode if it detects OVP. This will turn off the device and will return to normal operation (charging and enabled) when the fault is removed. If you use a 12V to 14V input, the OVP will be enabled. Recommended input voltage is the range where the device is still operational (in this case, will be in standby mode) in that it will not get damaged and work within the description of the datasheet.
