BQ24130: Charge termination

The BQ24130 is in some places referred to as host controlled and in some places as stand-alone. slvt145r.pdf states it as stand-alone, but the datasheet states hosted, while an older SLYT420 states it as both. My question is: Will the BQ24130 stop charging when the charging current reaches a certain minimum level?

If no, how can the charger be seen as 'stand-alone'?

If yes, how is the level set, or what is the level? Are there eny special setup / connections needed to make the charger act in stand-alone mode?

BQ24130 is a standalone device. I agree, the host controlled label is very confusing. The BQ24130 can have its fast charge and precharge current settings changed on-the-fly using the DAC or GPIOs on an MCU. Alternatively, these values can be fixed with resistors and the device will operate truly as a standalone device.

One thing is still outstanding for me - how does the BQ24130 stop charging - will it stop charging at some point, or continue, unless an external MCU does "something"?

Jens,

I see your concern now. This device is a bit difference and I understand why it is labelled as host controlled.

It is the responsibility of the host controller to driver ISET1 low when charging is complete. This can be done with an MCU or external logic.

If you are interested in a truly standalone solution, consider the BQ24133.
