BQ25887EVM: question about charging current

Hello,

I am unable to get the charging current about about 600mA through both cells. The input current max is around 1A @5V. The registers can write that high but the actual values do not change. I have tried two power supplies. This module is great but charging is too slow at only 600mA.

HI Brendan,

At 5W input, your charge current close to termination will be slightly less than 5W/8.4V = 595mA due to the efficiency of the charger. In fact, the charger is reporting IINDPM, which means that the input current is not enough for the requested charge current.

Hi Jeff,

Is this a limitation of the board? Because both of my DC inputs are capable of more than 5W.

Brendan,

The charger has an ILIM pin that clamps the input current, regardless of IINDPM setting. You can disable the ILIM pin using the first check box in the second column of the single bit I2C registers in the lower left area of the GUI.
