Hi Team,

A customer is considering LM51561-Q1 for their new project with the following specs:

Input 6 to 36V

Vout=2A@70V

The design is not getting created on WEBENCH - "Your preferred device does not work with the inputs you selected" - even though it should work according to the datasheet specs. 

Can LM51561-Q1 be used for these specifications? Why is a WEBENCH design not being created?

    Hi Taru,

    There are two concerns behind.

    1. The peak current is very large > 23A.

    2. The duty cycle is very large ~92% at least (assuming 100% efficiency)

    I would recommend using a synchronous controller like LM5122.

    Thanks for you support here

    few design requirements which may help you understanding LM51561 capability for below requirments

    1. Input 6V to 36V; Vout=65V@1A and not 2A as 2A caused very big inductor, will make two LM51561 power supplies and will make them OR with diodes

    2. Full capability 65V@1A is strictly applicable for Vin range of 11V to 36V, from 6V to 10V derated (reduced power and voltage) operation is acceptable 

    3. Device must be Function Safety capable
