Charger IC selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ21061, TLV810E

Hi team,

My customer are developing a tracker with 3.7V Li-Battery and they need a charge IC with power path function,.

and they hope the IC has discharge  threshold of battery voltage(EX.3.5V...) such as overdischarge protection function.

Do you have suggestion solution for it?

  • Hello Feng,

I am going to direct your question to the chargers team.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Feng,

None of our chargers have over-discharge protection above ~2.5V.  That is a feature for the pack protector IC.  If you can provide the input voltage and current and the battery voltage and capacity, I can recommend a the appropriate path charger.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

    Thank for your help.

    Customer spec is as below.

    input voltage :5V,battery voltage ,TYP 3.7V,MAX4.2V , capacity 300mAh.

Originally, they choose BQ21061 and it seems that they faced some overdischarge issue  so they would like to check whether  Vbat UVLO can be programmable IC achieve higher . 3.2V is their target.

Sorry, I didn't find the filter about it at ti.com.

  • Hi Feng,

I am not aware of any charger that allows the user to set the VBATUVLO.  The expectation is for the protector to provide that function.  Does the battery not have a protector?  We do not recommend using our chargers to charge bare cells.  If your customer does not want to use a protector, then perhaps they can add series back to back PFETs driven by a supervisor like TLV810E.

    Regards,

    Jeff
