BQ25882: Path management function under OVP protection can use?

Part Number: BQ25882
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25980, , BQ25790

Hi:

   I use BQ25882 & BQ25980 solution for 65W charger;Help to confirm the following questions:

1:   When 65W fast charging, bq25980 fast charging (input:20V / 3A), bq25882  will enter the OVP protection state, can the path management be used under the protection state? In addition, if the fast charging voltage drops to 5V, OVP, it will recover?

2: Our original plan was to turn off the charging of bq25882 at fast charging (20V / 3A)  through IIC and keep the path management function. Can it be realized?

PS:The recommended design is BQ25790&BQ25980

  • Hi:

       Any updata?

  • jie,

When in the overvoltage condition the converter stops switching, so the SYS will be fed from the BAT through the QBAT body diode if necessary. Once the overvoltage condition goes away, the BQ25882 will automatically recover and begin switching again.

2: Our original plan was to turn off the charging of bq25882 at fast charging (20V / 3A)  through IIC and keep the path management function. Can it be realized?

I have a concern about maintaining a minimum system voltage when the fast charging is handed over to the BQ25980. Is (6V - A diode drop) enough to meet your minimum system requirement?

(6V - A diode drop) is BQ25882 power path Voltage drop under OVP?

  • jie,

(6V - A diode drop) is BQ25882 power path Voltage drop under OVP?

Under OVP the power path would be (VBAT - a diode drop).

The worst case scenario is (6V - a diode drop) because the BQ25882 transitions from precharge to fast charge at 6V and that is when your BQ25980 should take over and cause BQ25882 to go into OVP.
