TPS54528: About Bootstrap capacitor selection

Dear Sir

About VBST of TPS54528, as data sheet mentioned, there must be have a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor connected between VBST to SW terminal

What if the spec of ceramic capacitor changed from 0.1uF up to 0.01uF, will there be any problems or effects?

Hi Jimmy,

BST cap is used to charge high side driver. if this cap is too small, High side maybe couldn't turn on completely. So it's suggested to use 0.1uF cap.

Hi Jimmy,

As Edwin stated above. This is a supply input for the high-side FET gate drive circuit. A 0.1 µF ceramic capacitor must be connected between the VBST to SW terminal for proper operation. It is recommended to use a ceramic capacitor. If lower value is used, you may see the driver not supplied properly.

Thanks for your soon reply!! One more question, if lower value capacitor is used and high-side FET gate drive not supplied properly, is it possible caused TPS54528 IC burned?

Over time it may damage the device. But I am not how that will cause burning. What do you mean by Burning?
