LMG1210EVM-012: Feedthru Capacitor

Part Number: LMG1210EVM-012

Hi team,

Good day. Our customer used the LMG1210EVM-012 and the board has a C14 0.47uF Feedthru Capacitor rated for 6.3V. They try to use a 1200pF 50V capacitor and it blows up at the input voltage range of 60V. Is there anything special why the board was designed with C14 Feedthru Capacitor?

Regards,
Carlo

  • Carlo,

The feedthru capacitor provide bias to the high-side gate while filtering HF noise on the HB_HS supply. As mentioned in the recommended operating conditions of the d/s, HB-HS should not exceed 5.25V therefore I am not sure you need a 50V cap there.

As for the value of the cap, this should be careful such the the boot cap is able to fully replenish during the high-side off times.

Did they change anything else on the board? What was the reasoning behind reducing boot cap value from 0.47uF to 1200pF?

    Regards,
