BQ78350-R1: Advance Charge Algorithm in bqStudio 1.3.86

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi,

We have designed a designed a battery pack + BMS based on reference TI Design TIDA-00792 but modified+dimensioned according to our application.

I'm trying to configure the "Advanced Charge Algorithm" data memory available through bqStudio for BQ78350-R1.

I have read Chapter 5 of TR BQ78350-R1 and the parameters seems different from those available through bqStudio 1.3.86. For example, in bqStudio the available Temperature Ranges are: T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 Temp (address 0x45ED to 0x45F3), but in TR BQ78350-R1 to these parameters.

However, in TR BQ78350-R1 Charge Algorithm appears memory map addressing for 0x45DF to 0x45EC, which are well explained how they work on Chapter 5, but they cannot be configured through bqStudio since they aren't available there.

Could you explain me how can I set properly the "Advanced Charge Algorithm" though bqStudio for BQ78350-R1?

Thanks in advance,

Marco.

  • Hi,

I re-writte this part for better understanding:

*For example, in bqStudio the available Temperature Ranges are: T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 Temp (address 0x45ED to 0x45F3), but in TR BQ78350-R1 there is no mention to these parameters.

    Thanks,

    Marco.

  • Hi Marco,

I see the problem. In the BQStudio screen it shows that you are using version 2.02 of the firmware. This is the BQ78350-R2 which is different device firmware from the BQ78350-R1. There is currently no separate TRM for the BQ78350-R2, but there is a document that covers the changes here: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluubm6

Many of the data flash addresses have changed for the R2 version because new parameters were added, so it is important to use BQStudio for the updated data flash addresses. These addresses are all correct in BQStudio.

I hope this helps and is not too confusing.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for the explanation. I understand all better now.

So, the only way to know the memory map for BQ78350-R2 is through BQStudio, rigth? Is there any other official document where I could find it?

I have to send this memory map to the host. Is there a possibility of customize any memory map address? For example, changing the current "Serial Number" address 0x406b to another specific address.

    Thanks,

    Marco.

  • Hi Marco,

Currently BQStudio is the only way to see the memory map. There is no way to change the addresses since it is mapped in the device firmware. (Technically it is possible, but a change to the firmware would only occur for major new feature additions like an R3 device. There are no planned changes to the firmware in the foreseeable future).

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Ok, clear.

Thank you Matt for your support!

    Marco.
