TPS23730EVM-093: User Guide Doubt

Part Number: TPS23730EVM-093
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23730

Hi,

I am reviewing all the solutions for developing a PoE interface with capability for delivering >30W to load.

I had a look at the TPS23730 wich fulfills our requirements. Looking at user guide of the TPS23730EVM-093 I don't understand if PoE PS is connected to the J1 or J2 connector. In description part (page4) it is writen that "Ethernet power is applied from J2 and is dropped to the bridge rectifier..."  latter on the same page it is writen that "Input power can also be applied at J3 from a DC source when power at J1 is not present." wich arrise me the question Wasn't the ethernet power applyed from J2? Can the EVM use for transfering data between J1 to J2 and be powered trhough J3?

My doubt resumes in which is the PoE conector in this EVM, J2 or J1? and Can the EVM use for transfering data between J1 to J2 and be powered trhough J3?

Thanks in advance,

Juanjo

  • Hello,

Power and ethernet data go into J2. You can tell this by looking at the input transformer T1. J1 is the data separated from the power.

J3 is auxillary power. If no power is sent over ethernet, the data lines can still be used.
