BQ78Z100: BQ78Z100 Potential Problem for Additional Protection Circuit

Part Number: BQ78Z100

Hi Team,

Customer doesn’t want to use BQ78Z100 protector by leaving CHG and DSG pin to be float, instead, they add protection circuit between P- and B-. Attached is the schematic, is there any potential problems by doing so?

Thanks and Best Regards!

Hao

  • Hello Hao,

Not populating CHG and DSG is normally OK but adding protection on the low side before the gauge could cause the gauge to lose power in the event the protection triggers. This could cause SOC reporting problems if the gauges wakes up and takes an OCV when the battery isn't relaxed.

    Best,
