LM5032: Type III compensation

Hello.

My customer is facing an unstable control loop problem with LM5032 in non-isolated boost topology.
Because it is a current mode controller, they are now using the Type-II compensation by an external op-amp.

Then they are asking me if using Type-III compensation instead of Type-II is no problem.
I’m not sure whether Type-III is really effective for this current mode boost topology, but is using TYPE-III itself no problem?

 Regards,
Oba

  • Hi,

It is ok to use type-III and no problem.

In theory, type-II is ok for current mode. In practice, the reality may not be the same, So type-III may need. The compensation needs to measure the bode plots which results are needed to confirm if ok.
