BQ25730: About LiFePO4 charger IC

Hi,

Customer is looking for LiFePO4 charger.

Required specifications is;
・Input voltage :12V～14.7V
・4 series cell (LiFePO4)
・Battery voltage :3.2V×4=12.8V
・Charge current :≒4A (3800mAh / 1C)

I am trying to introduce BQ25730.
Is it correct to understand that BQ25730 supports LiFePO4?
And Could you tell me if there is a better product?

Hi, Yusuke,

BQ25730 is the right part. It supports 4S battery and it is the latest generation of buck-boost charge controller. For this current level, BQ25792 is a better choice.

Please check out TI latest fully integrated 1-4 Cell, 5-A Buck-Boost Battery Charger with Dual-Input Selector and USB PD 3.0 OTG Output BQ25790 in WCSP package and BQ25792 in QFN package.

I found BQ24179 while checking BQ25792.

These two devices have similar specifications.
Why is it newly released as the BQ24 series?
And Could you tell me the difference between the two devices?

BQ24179 does not have the same function set. For example, No OTG function in BQ24179.

Thank you for your kind support.
I would like to ask a question about the BQ25792 you recommended.

This device has the IINDPM function.
The recommended input current is up to 3.3A.

Under the following conditions, the charging current of 4A cannot be output.

・Input voltage :12V
・4 series cell (LiFePO4)
・Battery voltage :3.2V×4=12.8V
・Charge current :≒4A (3800mAh / 1C

Is my understanding correct?
If my understanding is correct, are there any other recommended devices?

You are correct! since the input voltage is 12V, the IINDPM will limit the max charge current. Please go back to BQ25730.
