BQ34Z110: BQ34Z110

Part Number: BQ34Z110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2018, , BQ76942, BQ34Z100-G1

HI. I am wanting to monitor state of charge for individual lead-acid batteries in a battery bank of 55. Each battery is 2V and could be 100amp or 200amp. i saw datasheet of BQ34Z110 and saw it only measures for individual battery over 4V. i also read datasheet of BQ2018 and found it suitable but not sure on battery voltage and ampere capacity. Kindly request you to let me know appropriate IC to which i can use to measure impedance of battery, charging/discharging and temperature of the battery. Also both the parts are for single battery. Is there any IC with multiple battery monitoring?

  • Hi Rajat,

The BQ34Z100-G1 is the best gauge we have available for lead-acid. However, lead acid batteries have a much more linear discharge curve compared to lithium-ion batteries, so the voltage can be a very good indicator of the state of charge. So a battery monitor IC like the BQ76942 may be a very good option as well.

The BQ34Z100-G1 measures the stack voltage (total voltage for all cells in series), current, and temperature and estimates the SOC. The BQ76942 measures the individual cell voltages, current, and temperature, and reports these to a microcontroller which can estimate SOC based on these parameters. Both of these devices can scale the current measurement for larger current applications.

    Best regards,

    Matt
