TPS23730EVM-093: the efficiency questions

Part Number: TPS23730EVM-093

Hi Sirs,

My customer used the EVM to do the functional test, they have some questions as below, please help to advise. Thanks!

Q1: At dynamic load test, they got the Vout ripple (Vp-p) up to 1.92V, is it correct? (Test condition: Vin=55V, Vout=12V, load current=1.5A~4A, freq=1kHz)

Q2: They got the light load (6W) efficiency only have 59%, why the TPS23730EVM user guide showed it can get the efficiency up to 71%? Could you please share the test condition?

Q3: At Vin=55V, Vout=12V, loading=5A, they observed the Vout rise curve is not smooth, is it correct? what is the reason that will cause the not smooth curve?

Q4: The EVM user guide showed the PCB drawing and they got the EVM PCBA is different. please release the latest schematics and PCBA drawings.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your questions, please find my answers below.

Q1: The slew rate is most likely the reason for the difference. In our test list when we validate the EVM we aim for 200mA/us for the e-load slew rate.

Q2: I think this could be a measurement discrepancy. Here is how we measure the efficiency for our results -

For the input power measurement, we measure the input voltage across TP1 and TP2. We also place a current meter in series with the input power supply to measure the input current.

For the output power measurement, we measure the output voltage across TP14 and TP20. We also place a current meter in series with the e-load to measure the output current.

Q3: At low voltages the reference isn't fully biased yet and so this is expected behavior. I don't see any concern on my side from this waveform.

Q4: I have sent you a friend request on E2E. Please accept and I will share the PCBA files in messenger.

    Best Regards,

    Brett Colteaux
