BQ2002T how to increase hysteresis

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2002T

I am using BQ2002T board http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu007b/sluu007b.pdf using 6 cells.  Depending on the batteries the charger can sometime get stuck in this loop:

Vbat <2 volts then full charge

Vbat>2 volts then trickle, but when it goes to trickle the voltage drops below 2volts so it goes back to full charge, then back to trickle than back to full charge. This can last sometimes an hour.  How can this be improved so the charger stays in full charge for several minutes after it passes 2V?

  • 2V is a over voltage shut off.  If the product is designed properly there should be no more than 1.6V to 1.7V on the BAT pin, when the cells reach full capacity.  On the T part the termination is based on the TS pin and it looks for a dT/dt of about 1C/min temperature change on the TS pin and terminates.  The condition you describe has the BAT pin getting up toward 2V and this is not normal.   Yes the charging will cycle on and off if the BAT pin voltage goes above and below 2V.

  • Hello Charles,do you know any solution to test and measure  2V lead-acid battery ?

    Thx.
