TPS51117 with 27Vin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS51117, LM3150

Hello,

I am working with a 27V input application dropping the voltage down to 3.5V-4.5V on the output with a peak output current of about 20A.

Looking at the characteristics of this part with support up to 28V in looks like it should be fine, but my question is if having so little head on the controller max voltage is foolish especially since there is bound to be input voltage variation and reflected switching ripple.

Thank you for you help and feedback.

  • Hi,
TPS51117 grantee 28V reliable operation, however, we suggest customer to have 20% derating for reliable design (voltage, current and thermal)
for your 27V application, we also suggest you consider external fet controller, such that you can choose higher Vin
  • Hello Ben,

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have moved to the LM3150. While it does not have the ability to go quite as low as I would like in switching frequency it supports much higher voltages and it has an integrated bias LDO.
