TPS56x20 I2C TEST PANEL

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, TPS56C20

We tested TPS56C20EVM with "TPS56x20 I2C TEST PANEL".
This tool displayed 0xDF as a register read value when USB2ANY was connected to EVM but Vin was not added.
In addition, this tool displayed 0xCF as a register read value when USB2ANY was not connected to anything.

I think USB2ANY and TPS56C20 can not do I2C communication in above condition, however "TPS56x20 I2C TEST PANEL" displays read register data.
Why is this? Is the control such as this done in the tool?

Kohei Sasaki

  • I'm not quite familiar with I2C communication, but I consulted team member for this post, and quote form him,

'The customer’s understanding is correct, USB2ANY and TPS56C20 can not do I2C communication in those conditions, it should not get any data from TPS56C20.

They can read the data as 0xDF or 0Xcf, this should be related with the setting or programming of USB2ANY. The develop team of USB2ANY is the best one to answer this question.

However, in my opinion, they need not to care about this condition, because TPS56C20 is not powered or even not connected. If it can work(read and write correctly) in normal power up condition, it is good.'
