LP8553: audible noise issue + low ESR electrolytic

Part Number: LP8553

Posting for a colleage:

Can this device support low ESR electrolytics for Cout? We are running into audible noise issues with a 20mA load on this device. Currently looking into playing with the switching frequency, inductor and capacitor values to adjust the voltage ripple but nothing is working so far.

Also looking into low noise cermanic caps.

Don't have access to the EEprom so can't use the phase shift PWM mode.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Nate

  • Hi Nate,

We have not tried electrolytic caps for Cout on this part. We need to look at it on the bench to confirm. I'll check with the designer as well.

Low noise ceramics are your best bet. If you go ahead with electrolyte cap, you still want to put a small 0402 ceramic in parallel.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you,
