TPS65910A3EVM-583: some questions of TPS65910 PMIC for AM3352

Part Number: TPS65910A3EVM-583
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3352, TPS65910

Hello,

Have a customer use TPS65910A3 PMIC for AM3352, have some questions about PMIC TPS65910A3.

1. The output voltage and sequential of TPS65910A3 follow below tables when VCC power on? select boot mode:01

Whether TPS65910A3 have fixed the configure of the registers?

If no, whether need AM3352 to configure these registers with I2C interface?

2.If need AM3352 configure the registers of PMIC TPS65910A3, How PMIC provide voltage to AM3352 to work when VCC on?

3.Don't use RTC function of PMIC, below table show don't connect PMIC_POWER_EN pin, but the user guide of TPS65910 for AM335X, the pin of PMIC_POWER_EN connect PWRHOLD of TPS65910, if no connect, how to set for PIN PWRHOLD? pull down or up?

  • Hello, this is Zhanhang Fang from Huaxin in Guangzhou,
Could you help to feedback these three questions to us,
    It is urgent to us.

    Thank you so much

  • Hi Maka,

The default voltages and sequencing for the TPS65910Ax parts are found in the following application note available in the technical documents section of the product folder:

Unfortunately your images did not upload properly. I will try to answer based on the text.

The AM335x processor should not need to configure any of the PMIC rails in order to boot.

When pulled high, the PWRHOLD pin will either turn the PMIC on if it was OFF or keep the PMIC on if it was already ON. If they want the PMIC to power up by default, they can connect it to their input supply. If they want to use the pushbutton to turn on, then they should connect it to one of the PMIC rails that comes up after boot, like VIO.

  • Hi Kevin,

1.For the first question, your means we have written the default data into eeprom? right? because I don't find eeprom decryption in the datasheet, so it is not very clear for me.

and can user change the eeprom configure by I2C interface if they want? thanks!
  • Hi Maka,

The EEPROM information for the TPS65910Ax specific part numbers is provided in the application note, rather than the datasheet. The datasheet is part number independent.

The EEPROM is factory programmed and cannot be changed by customers.
  • Hello Zhanhang,

Kevin's feedback have answered your question.

1.Have eeprom in PMIC, it seems to have write default data into eeprom to configure the register.
2.AM3352 don't need to configure PMIC when power on
3.Please see kevin's reply, It is clear.
  • thanks Kevin.
I don't have more question on it. wait for customer engineer's feedback on it.
  • To Kevin LaRosa

    Thanks for you reply clearly

There are four questions need your help

    1. "RTC Feature Disable" is used in my project, so , does  "PMIC_EN"  from AM3352 need to connect  "PWRHOLD" from PMIC?  Or let PWRHOLD floating ? Or pull up external ?

    2. We dont use button for power on, what is the "PWRON" connect ?

    3. How can I know the gap between any supply in power up sequence of PMIC ?  I just know "slot number" in datasheet .

    4. Could you provide the document about  EEPROM information for the TPS65910Ax specific part numbers to us ?

    Thank you so much

  • Hi Zhanhang,

    1. You do not need to connect it to PMIC_EN unless you want the processor to be able to manage the PMIC shutdown. If you are not using push button, you will need some way of starting the PMIC start-up sequence. If you want it to start by default, you can pull the PWRHOLD pin high to create a start-up event. See the "Device power-on enable conditions" section on page 47 of the datasheet to see your options.

    2. Connect it to a logic level high source, typically your main supply. This will ensure it won't be improperly triggered (this is an active low pin, so shorting to GND would be interpreted as someone doing a long key press and result in power down).

    3. TSLOT_LENGTH is defined in the TPS65910Ax User's Guide (SWCU093F) as 2 ms. It is at the top of page 6.

    4. The TPS65910Ax User's Guide (SWCU093F) is available from the Technical Documents page of the product folder (http://www.ti.com/product/TPS65910/technicaldocuments) in the User Guides section.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Thank you ,Kevin LaRosa

No questions temporary, I think we need your help when debug our board.
