LM2936: LM2936 3.3V version and 22uF output cap

Part Number: LM2936

Hi,

There is a min value of 22uF for stability in the datasheet of the 3.3V version. Is that a "one size fits all" constraint or are there other conditions for stability using a 10uF capacitance ?

My application has a 3mA current draw with very little AC component, a 6V to 36V input voltage and I can add up to 26Ohm of ESR.

Thank you.

  • Hi Cyril,

According to the datasheet, for the LM2936 3.3-V and 3-V options, the output capacitor, COUT, must have a capacitance value of at least 22 µF with an ESR of at least 300 mΩ, but no more than 8 Ω. The minimum capacitance value and the ESR requirements apply across the entire expected operating ambient temperature range.

In order to satisfy the stability requirement of the device, if you have 3.3V, please have capacitor size higher than 22uF and ESR between 300mOhms and 8Ohms.

    Regards,
