BQ76930: active-passive cell balancing, schematic

Hello every one I'm a beginner with TI ICs and I need help. so I have a project about batteries management system and I will use BQ76930 and BQ78350-R1 my question is : is it possible to implement Active cell balancing with BQ76930 and what is the difference between internal Cell balancing and external cell balancing which one is better? can I have the most recommended cell balancing schematic for BQ76930 ?

Hi Oscar,

The BQ76930 only supports passive cell balancing. If you are interested in active cell balancing and understanding where it would be needed, you can refer to this training video: training.ti.com/demonstration-16-channel-active-cell-balance-solution

External cell balancing can speed up the cell balancing process by using external FETs to drive higher currents. Internal balancing is a little easier from the board design perspective and of course lower cost. For reference schematics for the BQ76930, you can refer to the reference designs on the product page: www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware
