UCC28880: 24V current limiting solution to meet UL Class 2 power limits

Part Number: UCC28880
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1663, TPS2663

I have a 24V output 150W AC/DC feeding two circuits each of which can be limited to well under 96W  and am looking for a  current limiting solution to help me meet UL Class 2 power limits.  Can you recommend anything that has been UL certified to the appropriate standards?  Voltage is 24VDC and current is <= 3.75A.  Thank you

I'm not clear about your question. Are you looking for a device that limits the input current to each of the two DC/DC stage to 3.75A?

You also mention part number UCC28880. How does this relate to UCC28880? UCC28880 is a low power AC/DC offline converter that can generate up to 3W from an AC or high voltage DC input. It has nothing to do with current limit of high power level AC/DC converters.

Depending on what you are looking for, something like TI's eFuse, load switches or load share controller may be what you're looking for. You also may want to consider a TI Current sense amplifiers that drives a circuit that enables the behavior you are looking for.

  • Hi Eric - The solution I am looking for doesn't need to be the UCC28880 as my main interest is finding a solution that will help me meet UL Class 2 for the V and I shared. Can you please recommend a controller? I am ok with finding eFuses/load switches. Thx

Since you listed UCC28880 as a part number this thread was incorrectly assigned to our product experts for AC/DC power controllers, which I'm a part of. I'm reassigning it to our product experts for eFuse and load switches for further assistance. They will take over support.

    Best Regards,
    Eric
  • Hello Eric,

You can consider TPS2663 or TPS1663 for power and current limiting. Let us know if you have any further queries on this device.
