TPS62291: temperature ratings in the datasheet

Part Number: TPS62291

Team,

Please help answer my customer's questions on temp specs in the datasheet:

Are the components soldered to a PCB or standalone for the Tamb, Tj, and Tstg specs? Regarding Tj and Tstg listed in the Absolute Maximum Ratings section of the datasheet, the data is followed by this clause:

Although it is not explicitly defined, can you give us an estimate for how long an “extended period” is that may affect device reliability?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hi Viktorija,

To ensure normal operation, the TPS62291 should be operated under the recommended operating conditions. Even if it is for a short duration and the component does not fail, there are no guarantees the TPS62291 will operate normally for long term under the absolute maximum ratings. Outside of recommended operating conditions, we can not ensure if anything is likely to fail or have degraded performance. If the customer has personally tested the device and sees no problems, then it is up to them. Failures at absolute maximum ratings can range from anywhere from mechanical stress causing the IC to be inoperable or have unspecified operations that can damage your circuit. Let me check again if we might have a definition for "extended period" and get back to you. What is the application for this device?

And can you please clarify your first question?

    Best regards,
    Omar
  • Hi Viktorjia,

After checking, the customer is not recommended to operate the devices outside the recommended operating conditions that are specified in the datasheet.

    Regards,

    Omar
