TPS22968: Does TPS22968x-Q1 have particular failure mode for over voltage on VIN/VBIAS?

Does the TPS22968x-Q1 have an expected behavior if VIN/VBIAS pushes past its limits?  Does that behavior change based on how far past its limits it goes?

• Input Voltage Range: 0.8 to 5.5 V

• VBIAS Voltage Range: 2.5 to 5.5 V

    We don't have an expected behavior of the device if it's pushed past its limits. However, if you can provide me with additional details regarding the application, I could provide additional insight. How often are you expecting the device to be pushed past the abs max? What system condition requires the system to be pushed past it's abs max?

    If you're looking for a higher voltage device, I recommend looking at the TPS22810.

  • While brainstorming ideas about over voltage protection the idea of using a (smallish) load switch instead of (large-ish) discrete transistors was floated.  There are several possible issues with this scenario, but we would like to know what would happen to the part if ~15V were applied to it?  Would it short Vin/Vbias to Vout, would it open circuit?  This assumption assumes that the upstream regulator has completely failed, and therefore destruction of the load switch wouldn't be a limiting factor, although it surviving would be nice.  Thanks,

    Thanks for the clarification on the circuit. It would be difficult to conclude the mode of failure of the switch, since it could vary depending on what breaks. If the ESD diode shorts, it could cause an input short. However, if the body FET breaks, then the device could fail open.

    If you're looking for a device with overvoltage protection, would something like the TPS2595 work instead?
