BQ77915: Selection of CHG and DSG MOSFETs

Dear Ti,

The CHG and DSG MOSFETs which we are using now in our application is IRF510 (a through hole component). The expected results and obtained results are not matching.

Both the MOSFETs are not turning ON upon instant POR under NORMAL mode operation. Do you recommend the above mentioned  MOSFETs for use?

If no, Can you please suggest any through hole MOSFET component?

    Hi Raahul,
    The IRF510 is a standard MOSFET and should work well with the bq77915. It has voltage ratings for Vgs suitable for use with such a circuit. Ciss is low so it may switch very quickly and RDSG may need to be adjusted for a desired transition time. I don't see any reason it would prevent turn on. You might check to see if turn on is so fast that load capacitance is causing short circuit. Otherwise check connections and the PRES pin signaling.

    TI does have some 100V through hole FETs such as CSD19536KCS, I don't think that changing the FETs will cause the CHG and DSG to turn on after POR.
