UCC21540: UCC21540

Part Number: UCC21540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21750

Dear Sirs.

I am building a 3 phase 30KW 96V automotive inverter. All SPWM waves circuits are already built, Now I am trying to build the last stage, the power one.

UCC21540- I choose this gate driver because it seems very new, I would like to ask a few quenstions

1) Is UCC21540 well choosen for drive MOSFET N  transistors Example; SQM9014E? Or has TI other better model?

2) The maximum 3 phase motor current is arround 330A.

To get a good corrent I have to install at least 9 transistors in parallel for each arm. Total 9 transistors x 6 arms = 54 transistors;  (9 x 98A) = 882A. Is UCC21540 good for driving all of these transistors?

3) VDDA/VSSA and VDDB/VSSB can be single tension, for example 12V/0V or must be dual tension for example: +12V /-4V to ensure that it can switch off very well the transistors?

Regards

Joaquim

  • Hi, Joaquim,

Thanks for your interest in our products, and welcome to e2e!!!

Here is a reference design similar to what you are doing: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01540

You need to check the gate charge requirements, and see if UCC21540 will provide the switching times you need.

We also have the UCC21750 which has higher gate drive capabilities. It would be a good choice if UCC21540 doesn't meet your switching time requirements.

Let us know if you have further questions.
