TPS54302: 20Vin to 12Vout/0.5A use 2.2uH inductor

Hello expert,

Customer would like to know if we can use 2.2uH in 20Vin to 12Vout/0.5A application. Since I saw recommended table is 15uH for 12Vout application. But they want to replace a smaller size inductor. They will place more capacitor and would like to know if TPS54302 can accept 2.2uH when ripple is acceptable. Thanks a lot!

2.2uH is too small, we don't recommend the customer use it.

Why does the customer want to use so small inductance?

Hello Shawn,

Customer need to use smaller inductance due to board size. May I know if there is any method that we can achieve 2.2uH or the smallest inductance you recommended? Thanks a lot!

Hi,

If you want to use small L, you'd better select a converter with high switching frequency.

For your application, I think you can use 10uH.
