TPS23756: tps23756 Tj measurement without power consumption

Hi Team,

May I have your help to teach my customer how to calculate Tj for TPS23756? (If it without power consumption)

Datasheet show we have tested it at 88C base on our condition but customer want to know how to test it without power consumption.

Please help to advise

Hello Bo Xian Yeh,

Detailed information on how to calculate thermal junction temperatures for systems can be found in the paper: " Semiconductor and IC Package Thermal Metrics"

I would point out that the thermal performance is typically most critical during full load situations, not no load. No load and light load situations usually have smaller duty cycles, slower switching frequency and less power flow, so the thermals will be lower in these situations versus loaded situations.

Lastly, the datasheet has a section "6.8 Typical Characteristics" that graphs some of the device's performance over temp.

The datasheet also provides a junction temperature range that can be used with equations in: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spra953c/spra953c.pdf

to solve for an ambient temperature range. (page 5).
