LM285-1.2: Power management forum

Part Number: LM285-1.2

What occurs to the voltage reference under over current conditions? Does the device short, open or other? Up to 72mA may be seen under fault conditions.

  • Hi Stan,

What do you mean by undervoltage?

When the Vz < Vin the current through the device will be specified under figure 2. When the Vz  will not be a complete open but the current will be very small.

  • First, thanks for responding.

Using an LM285. Did some testing on the parts. I thought  (meant) to say what happens under over current conditions. Graphs show up to 30mA. Ran the test unit and had 250mA through it. Brought current back to norm and it still functions. I was looking for the temperature rise. Measured >170F. Tough part. impressed. Initial current under my conditions was 250mA then dropped to 220mA as the temperature increased. This is due to the Vref increasing.

    Thanks,

    Stan

  • Hi Stan,

This is interesting behavior. Before I received the devices to test it out on my side, our lab is closed due to covid19 precautions.

Can you share with me the schematic you are using?
