TLV1117: P2P replace with NCV1117 questions

Part Number: TLV1117

Hi,

I have a question reading TLV1117 and P2P ON SEMI NCV1117, the current limit of TLV1117 is 1.2A, but the short-current VS (vin-vout) curve shows at vin-vout=5V, the short current is around 1.5A, which is conflict with the current limit parameter. Is this the parameter error or different test condition like different vin/vout?

And the short-current VS (vin-vout) curve shape of TLV1117 is different from NCV1117, is this because TLV1117 uses brick-wall current limiting while NCV1117 uses foldback current limiting? If yes, why TLV1117's short-circuit current show a increasing trend as the (vin-vout) increases? It shouldn't be decrease as the power consumption increases to easily reach OTP?

Best Regards,

Chen

  • Hi Chen,

I have reviewed the datasheet of TLV1117. According to Figure 1, at Vin-Vout=5V, the short current is around 1.5A and it's still within the limit of the current limit which is from 0.8A to 1.6A. The current limit is a production limit, but the typical curves like Figure 1 only provide the typical performance on probably one single lot with a small group of units. This may explain the difference between the two. Does it make sense?
