TPS61253A: Increase inductance for light load in PWM mode

Part Number: TPS61253A

I decided to use TPS61253A boost converter for my design:
Vin = 2.3V ~ 3.7V
Vout = 5V
Iout = 5mA

I'd prefer to use PWM mode in order to get lower noise in spite of lower efficiency.
At 5mA output current the converter normally is in discontinuous mode.
Increasing the inductor value I can obtain a lower current to be in CCM.

In datasheet the recommended maximum effective inductance is 1.3uHy.
Is it possible to increase the inductance value above the maximum recommended value?
What would be the consequences?

Thanks,
Pablo

  • Hi Pablo,

    Thanks for showing interest in TPS61253A.

    Actually if you configure this device working at forced PWM mode, the converter will work at CCM even at very low load current. Please see below detailed explanation. So you don't have to worry about it. Use the recommended inducto please.
