LM5170: LM5170-Q1 Design

Part Number: LM5170
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5176

Hi,

I have a requirement of Input 10-60VDC and output of 24VDC/20A.

Can this chip suffice my requirement if use the EVK as a reference for my design for quick prototyping?

  • Hi Lakshmikanth,

Thanks for reaching out with your question and for considering the LM5170 for your design.

Based on your application requirements I think the LM5176 might be a better solution. The LM5176 is a 4 switch buck boost that will regulate the output voltage regardless if the input voltage is above or below the output voltage. The LM5170 is a bi-direction boost and buck.

Based on the power level of this design it might be a good idea to use two LM5176s in parallel. This application note shows how to parallel two LM5176s. I would also suggest using the quick-start calculator to come up with the component values required for this application. The LM5176 EVM can be modified to meet the design requirements.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
