TLV61225: about current limit

Guru 11170 points
Part Number: TLV61225

Hello E2E,

I understand that this device operate by controlled ripple current.

Inductor current ripple is 200mA and switch_current_limit(min) is 160mA on datasheet.

Can this device startup?

Regards,
ACGUY

  • Hi ACGUY:

That's a good question. For the typical value, it's 200mA ripple and 400mA current limit, so there is no risk.

For the corner case as Isw_lim=160mA, the ripple will be smaller in some way.

If the load is light, it's ok to startup.

  • Hi Minqiu,

    Thank you for reply.

If got the device for Isw_lim=160mA, how much the ripple to limited? Less than 100mA?

  • Hi ACGUY:

Sorry for making you confuse. The ripple comparator inside the device won't change its value, but the ripple you observed in waveform will be limited below 160mA. Because the current limit function has higher priority. The converter will turn off the low side switch once detect the current limit triggered.

If Isw_LIM=160mA, ILH>Isw_LIM  : the converter operated in DCM, with peak current of inductance is 160mA. The ripple of the inductance is 160mA.

If Isw_LIM=160mA, ILH<Isw_LIM  : the converter operated in CCM or DCM, the waveform is similar with Fig7 in datasheet, with lower hysteretic value.

As long time no hear from you, I assume you have solved the issue. If not, just reply below. Thank you!
