TPS26630-33EVM: Part fails when load is applied

Part Number: TPS26630-33EVM

Hello team,

I have the TPS26630-33EVM evaluation board and have modified it to test out what will eventually be within a design. Here are the components I have changed:

  • D2, C3, Q1 and Q2 depopulated
  • R14 and R15 populated with 0Ohm
  • R2 switched to 475kOhm
  • R3 switched to 5.11kOhm
  • R5 switched to 10kOhm
  • R6 switched to 13kOhm (J4 set to 1-2)
  • R11 switched to 95.3kOhm
  • C4 switched to 0.022uF

My power supply is 200W, 48V XP power supply. On the output, I have wired in a switch that is connected to a 220uF capacitor and 100Ohm resistor in parallel. The switch serves as a way of hot-plugging the load.

When I turned the power supply on, the input and output both showed acceptable values. When I flipped the switch to the load, there was a spark and the TPS26630 was busted. The input was brought to 0V and the part was very hot under a thermal camera.

Could you please help me figure out why this may have occurred?
