LM5146-Q1: Stops working on input transient

Part Number: LM5146-Q1

Hey Team,

I have a customer that is using the LM5146-Q1. The board has quite a lot of capacitance at the input to negate the overvoltage event, but it still goes high to about 100V for ~10ns.

Is this enough to damage the chips? What would be a recommended way to get rid of the short period of overvoltage?

Thanks for the help!

Best,
Dajon McGill

  • Hello

Can you please send your schematic.

It is best to keep the transient below the 100V limit.

It appears that this is a transient ring on the input.

You may be able to use an Al. cap on the input to damp

the ringing.  The ESR of the Al. cap will help to provide damping.

You could also select a Zener or TVS to clamp the input voltage

    to a safe value.

    Thanks
