PTPS7A2012PDBVR: Output Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A20

Hello Team, I am using LDO with part no. PTPS7A2012PDBVR for one of my application measurement. Please refer attachment for my application schematic. I had given 5V as Vin and expecting around 4.5V as Vout. When C2 is connected, I am observing Vout as 1.209V and when C2 is unpopulated I observed Vout around 4.3V. And also ,when I am connecting a load to OUT pin (pin no.5) without populating C2, I am observing around 1.2V as Vout. Could you please let me know, why it is happening like this and what could be the solution for this?

  • Hi Pavan,

PTPS7A2012PDBVR is  the pre-production version of TPS7A2012PDBVR and is a fixed voltage LDO where the output is set to 1.2V (the last two numbers indicate the fixed voltage value) which is why you are seeing 1.2V when you load the LDO.

As for the reason why the output increases when Cout is removed and there is no load, the device is designed to be used with a minimum of 1uF on the output and could become unstable if the output cap is too small.

Also just a quick note, assuming you want to stay in the SOT-23 package the device you are looking for is TPS7A2045PDBV however this device is not available for sampling yet but we will be releasing it in Q2 2021. However we do have that voltage version sampling in the X2SON package which you can find here if that will work for your initial evaluation  PTPS7A2045PDQNR.
