MC33063A: Change inductor value for MC33063A

Part Number: MC33063A

Hi team,

Our customer would like to change the inductor value for their design with MC33063A.
Please confirm if it is okay to change 220uH value to 110uH or 330uH in the Switch Emitter pin as they don't have available 220uH inductor to their design.

They use MC33063A to step-down 16V to 12Vdc in their design.
If you need a schematic, please let me know if I can share it offline.

Since they are using 220uH originally and if 110uH or 330uH is okay as an alternative. How that inductance impact design? Noise floor or FCC? Are there other component values that need to change if the inductor value changes?

Thanks!

Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

the inductor selection is related to output current and switching frequency. if using lower value inductor, the current limit may need to release. if using larger inductor, there is risk to trigger maximum duty cycle limit, which is 86%.
