LP87702-Q1: Set switching frequency

Part Number: LP87702-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP87702

Dear team,

How to adjust and set the switching frequency of 2MHz, 3MHz, 4MHz?

Many Thanks

Jimmy

  • Jimmy,

Thanks for your question. I have assigned this thread to the experts on the LP87702-Q1 PMIC, but due to the holidays please be patient in getting a response. I expect that someone will answer on Monday, January 4th.

  • Jimmy,

To prevent you from waiting too long, I took a look at the datasheet for the LP87702-Q1 and it says the following:

"ƒSW = Switching frequency, PWM mode, OTP programmable"

Please refer to the Technical Reference Manual (TRM) for each orderable part number and it will tell you the switching frequency that was programmed into the OTP memory:

    • LP877020-Q1 Technical Reference Manual: switching frequency for Buck and Boost regulators = 4 MHz
    • LP87702D-Q1: TRM not available in Technical documents. Need to wait for device experts to provide answer here.
    • LP87702K-Q1: TRM not available in Technical documents. Need to wait for device experts to provide answer here.

You can also modify the switching frequency during run-time operation by writing I2C commands to Register 0x31 (FREQ_SEL):

    • BOOST_FREQ_SEL = bit 2: 0b = 2 MHz, 1b = 4 MHz
    • BUCK_FREQ_SEL = bits 1-0: 00b = 2 MHz, 01b = 3 MHz, 10b = 4 MHz, 11b = 4 MHz
  • Hi Jimmy, The TRM for the -D and -K versions are in the product folder. All versions switch at 4Mhz.

Default Fsw cannot be changed manually; a custom OTP revision would be required to change default switching frequency to 2Mhz or 3Mhz.
